New Zealand cyclists George Bennett and Aaron Gate completed the opening stage of the 2026 Tour de France as the race began with a 19.6km team time trial in Barcelona. Bennett, making his return to the Tour, and Tour debutant Gate helped their respective teams navigate the fast and technical course. Gate and the rest of the XDS Astana team were involved in a crash during the TTT due to a man hole. Both now turning their focus to the demanding stages ahead. Visma–Lease a Bike claimed the stage victory, handing Jonas Vingegaard the first yellow jersey of this year's race.
